Choosing a car for a large family from several brands in 2009. Ford Galaxy disappeared (too small, no full-fledged spare wheel, cost more), Mitsubishi Grandis (very expensive, did not like the design and functionality), Toyota Sienna (the car is good, but expensive), Dodge Caravan . The choice fell on the KIA CARNIVAL. Even in the salon, as soon as the whole family got into the car - everyone immediately liked it (both the children, and the wife, and me) - the salon is comfortable, large, functional.
We ordered a version from the dealer with all the necessary and minimal options for comfort, the engine must be gasoline (so that it is warm in the cabin in winter, because diesel engines do not warm up well, and according to reviews, there are a lot of problems with diesel nozzles, which often become clogged, and maintenance and repairs are very expensive), I chose the box only mechanics
It is very quiet in the car, you can easily communicate at a speed of 100-120 km / h, the suspension gives the feeling that the car is flying or floating above the road, potholes and potholes are simply swallowed, but due to the mass - the car holds the road very tightly, from passing cargo trucks won't even move.
ABS and EBD specifically work out the assigned functions (a couple of times it turned out to be one wheel on a gravel roadside with simultaneous braking, moving away from an oncoming kamikaze, the car clearly kept its course, only then comes the realization that without these functions the car would have skidded and thrown off the road).
There is a power steering on the steering wheel, so the sensations from the wheels are clear. The engine is powerful - 186 hp. Such power is designed for 7 passengers with luggage, and for maneuvering on the roads. You manage to finish overtaking at the 3rd speed in 5-8 seconds, it presses into the seats from acceleration.
For safety - 8 airbags, there is an Isofix mount for child seats, seat belts are height adjustable, which is very convenient.
The cabin accommodates 7 seats. The seats are comfortable, there is lumbar support, side supports, adjustable head restraints, armrests - only on the front seats. Each seat can be removed. I removed the 3rd row of seats, a huge trunk was formed. You can remove the middle seat in the 2nd row, and then even an adult can walk around the cabin (crouching a little, of course).
The side doors roll back, which also turned out to be very convenient and often helped out in parking lots in large hypermarkets, when other cars parked very close to the side.
And in the garage you get easy access to the second row seats. Such a door design for a minivan is very well thought out, because. the car is larger in size than other passenger cars and hinged doors would take up a lot of space. The only drawback of such doors is that after a car wash in winter they can freeze. The problem is easily solved - you just need to treat the side door seal with silicone from a can.
In general, the car is very warm (even excessively, because there is separate heating at the feet of the 2nd and 3rd row of seats, so I never turned on the heating to the maximum, I set the fan to position 2 out of 5 possible). The air conditioner cools the entire cabin just as well in the summer, I almost never used it at maximum positions - it gets very cold. Established music is quite decent, at maximum volume (35 points) the speakers do not rattle, do not rattle, the bass is clearly audible.
