The Infiniti lineup is based on existing Nissan models. Coupes, sedans and crossovers are based on the Nissan FM, while the QX-56 SUV is based on the Nissan F-Alpha.
The names of Infiniti models are built according to the following principle - 1 or 2 letters at the beginning and numbers that indicate the engine size.
In 1985, Nissan began creating the Infiniti project. In 1989, on November 8, the first sale of cars took place in 51 showrooms in the United States.
Why did Nissan need this bold move? The fact is that in the 80s the United States was dominated by European and American concerns. While Nissan was associated with unpretentiousness and simplicity. A new brand was needed. The name Infiniti did not happen by chance - it is an allusion to the English word "infinity". The symbol of the brand - an oval with the top of a triangle inside - points to a certain road that disappears into infinity. This shows the brand's commitment to new technologies.
The brand naming system is unusual. The numbers are the size of the engine. What do the letters mean? For example, the letter I is lower in the alphabet than the letter G. This means that the car with the I index has larger dimensions.
Another important system is the Infiniti Preferred Customer Service program. Therefore, in the first decade of sales, the car became the leader in terms of customer satisfaction. The brand has many awards, including the highest ratings for the quality of customer service. The cars were also included in the top three according to independent evaluations of the quality of services and sales.
Initially, the company's activities were concentrated in Canada and the United States. Subsequently, the brand expanded to the Middle East market (1996), Taiwan (1997), the Republic of Korea (2005), and also to China. In Europe, the start of sales was given in 2008. At the moment, brand cars are sold in 35 states.
In 2011, Infiniti made a connection with motorsport. The company signed a contract with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, becoming its partner and sponsor. A little later, the pilot of this team, four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, became Infiniti's development director.
