The Ford Escape first hit the US car market in 2000. In Europe, the car has been presented since 2008 under the name Kuga. In terms of dimensions, the body is between the Japanese “buyers” in class and the Ford Explorer, and it is also 16.5 cm longer than the Jeep Grand Cherokee. By 2020, Ford Escape managed to endure 4 modifications and 3 restyling. External pronounced features are a spacious trunk with a large tailgate, reinforced moldings and wheel arches, smoothness and expansion of body lines. Subsequent versions got rid of the angularity a little.
History of Ford Escape development
Since 2000, the 4th generation Ford Escape has been implemented in the United States. Serial production by years:
2001-2007 - first generation and 2 restyling (2004 and 2007)
2008-2012 - second
2013-2019 - third and restyling in 2015
2019 - ... - fourth
The first Ford Escapes were equipped with a 2.0-liter Zetec gasoline engine with a manual transmission or a 3.0-liter Duratec with an automatic transmission. In 2004, the first hybrid car lines appeared. These upholstery parts are made from recycled fabric.
The second generation received higher engine volumes - from 2.3 liters, they became generally more powerful and faster, the exterior improved slightly. For this creation, the electronic engine display system has become characteristic. The hybrid also looks in this lineup.
The third generation was created by Ford Kuga developers. In addition to internal changes in appearance, the modernization affected the engine, transmission, and chassis. For the first time, the 1.6L engine appeared on the Escape. Since August 2019, a copy of the 4th generation has appeared on sale. This option is wider and longer, but lower and simpler. And an 8-speed automatic transmission appeared in the options.
Ford Escape configurations are completely dependent on the type and size of the engine. The basic set of options is a manual transmission, disc brakes, front-wheel drive, airbags, built-in navigation system and satellite radio, 7 speakers. With Duratec 2.3, 2.5, 3.0 engines, an automatic gearbox with a number of gears from 4 to 8 and all-wheel drive are installed in the kit. Ecoboost is also accompanied by an automatic transmission.
Initially, Zetec 2.0 or Duratec 2.3 was installed on the Escape. Both types are Ford-designed, reliable naturally aspirated gasoline engines, and both had 4 cylinders in line with 4 valves per combustion chamber. The most powerful Duratec 3.0 unit has 6 cylinders arranged in a V-shape. From the third generation, the Ford Ecoboost engine is installed, a turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection. Hybrid models combine electric motors with Atkinson cycle units.
