Cadillac CT6
Appearance CT6, decided in the corporate style of Art & Science, delights and at the same time somewhat suppresses. In the strict lines of the body, a huge shield of the radiator grille and arrow-shaped optics diodes, imperial notes sound. Of the exterior features, I note a relatively small ground clearance (140 mm), which will decrease by another couple of centimeters if the interior and luggage compartment of 433 liters are filled, wide and light aluminum doors, as well as a silhouette with a huge hood and a cabin shifted back.
This “constitution” is typical for rear-wheel drive executive cars, and the CT6 fits perfectly into the pool of these cars. It is built on the Omega rear-wheel drive platform and can be supplemented with plug-in all-wheel drive, which is offered by default on the Russian market.
Inside you find yourself in the realm of leather, wood, soft plastics and aluminum. This premium entourage is quite organically combined with hi-tech: multimedia is controlled not only through the touch screen with a diagonal of 10.2 inches, but also from the touchpad on the central tunnel, which clearly, without hesitation and “sticking”, is triggered by scrolling and pressing gestures. Digital “tidy” is easy to adjust for yourself. There is also a night vision system that displays images of pedestrians on the instrument panel, a digital mirror that broadcasts a video stream behind the car, a rear-view camera with a wide-angle picture and twin panoramic sunroofs. And how do you like the premium Bose Panaray audio system with 34 (!) Speakers, delivering sound of amazing depth.
But the sports notes, clearly sounding in the exterior, seem to be muffled in the interior design. Take at least the front seats. Lateral support is present, but the rollers are spaced very widely, with an eye on riders “in the body.” The four-spoke steering wheel is large in cross section and diameter. But the chairs can be adjusted in 20 parameters (the setting keys are placed on the door cards, as in Mercedes-Benz) and they have a massage function. Behind, the only thing missing is an ottoman chair, otherwise the functionality is more than solid: two displays that slide out of the backs of the front seats, two additional climate control zones, electrically adjustable curtains, personal headphones.
Driving the CT6 in the city is like navigating a yacht out of a cramped harbor into the ocean. At first it seems that it will be problematic to fit a car more than five meters long into the narrow vents of yards and maneuver in a limited area. But in practice, everything is different. The sedan is distinguished by maneuverability, and to the greatest extent this applies to cars in top trim levels that are equipped with the Active Rear Steer rear wheel steering system, which reduces the turning circle from 12.2 in the basic modification to 11.3 m. sector 10.2-inch touch screen.
It displays an image of the car from a bird’s eye view. At night, it is difficult to overestimate the help of the night vision system (draws pictograms of pedestrians on the “tidy”), as well as the salon mirror, on which the video stream is broadcast. At night and in bad weather, the picture in such an electronic mirror is better and clearer than in a classic mirror element. But if you’re a conservative, please flip the switch and the back view will become “like everyone else”, traditional.
The three-mode adaptive Magnetic Ride Control suspension masterfully smooths out bumps of various calibers in Ride mode, but vertical buildup becomes noticeable on asphalt waves in the suburbs. The amplitude of oscillation, however, is small, and in the “Sport” mode, when the chassis is clamped, these nods completely disappear.
The drive scheme with a 3.6-liter 335-horsepower V6 gasoline, 8-band “automatic” and plug-in all-wheel drive allows the CT6 to go powerfully and quickly, but for a number of reasons you don’t want to do this. Firstly, driving in active mode will instantly raise fuel consumption to 20 l / 100 km, despite the effective system of deactivating some of the cylinders at low loads and the Auto Start-Stop function.
Although on a straight highway at a steady 90 km / h, I easily brought down the consumption to a surprisingly low 7 liters per 100 km for such an engine. As you can see, the frequency of arrivals at gas stations directly depends on your routes and driving style. The CT6, with its solid dynamic potential, is conceived for something else: you get pleasure in it not so much from accelerating dynamics, but from the talent of this car to “eat up” distances. I went to the track, pressed the “gas” – and you can relax. The car stands on the road like a glove, the noise isolation is excellent (trying to hear a person from the street through closed windows is useless), an arsenal of electronic assistants (collision avoidance and automatic braking system, adaptive cruise control, lane control function, lane change assistant) takes care of your safety and saves strength.
