The lineup of the premium Japanese brand Acura has been replenished with a restyled version of the 2018-2019 Acura RLX flagship sedan. Data on the novelty was published a few days before the premiere, which should take place as part of the Monterey Automotive Week event, starting August 15 in California. Acura’s largest four-door has experienced its first full facelift since launch in 2012. During the modernization, the car acquired a new exterior design, received several local improvements in the interior, acquired a more advanced version of the AcuraWatch complex, got hold of a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The start of sales of Acura RLX 2018-2019 in the USA is scheduled for November this year. The price of the sedan will be either 61 thousand dollars (modification with a 3.5-liter “aspirated”), or 66 thousand dollars (hybrid version of the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid).

New look Acura RLX

The updated flagship Acura, following the example of its “brother” TLX, has changed its appearance in accordance with the new design concept of Precision Crafted Performance. Its main “trick” is a spectacular pentagonal radiator grille with a chrome frame and a grid in the form of a scattering of “diamonds”. Also, the new Acura RLX can be recognized by a different configuration of headlights (of course, LED), a completely redesigned bumper with two bright boomerangs on the sides and a corrected hood relief.

In the aft part of the car, the lanterns were revised, they changed their shape and received a different, more interesting, graphic pattern. The designers did not deprive the designers of the rear bumper either – new trapezoidal exhaust pipes and a black insert imitating a diffuser appeared here.

Having thoroughly redrawn the exterior, the developers practically did not touch the interior decoration. All innovations were reduced to the installation of more comfortable seats, improved quality of materials and the addition of a new Espresso finish. But some progress has occurred in the configurations. If the pre-reform car was offered in two levels of equipment, then the restyled one will be available in only one version, but stuffed to the eyeballs. The list of equipment will include heating of both rows of seats, electric drive and ventilation of the front seats, all-round cameras, premium Krell Audio acoustics, remote engine start, multimedia with two large color screens. By default, the interior of the sedan has leather trim with wooden inserts on the tunnel, door cards, front panel.

The updated Japanese premium sedan will go on sale in two versions. The basic version is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine with a return of 310 hp. and 369 Nm. Now it works in conjunction with a 10-speed “automatic”, which replaced the previous 6-speed. The appearance of a new transmission should help improve dynamics and reduce fuel consumption. The traction force of the RLX with a petrol “six” is directed to the front axle, while the rear is equipped with electric actuators that turn the wheels.

Acura’s four-door hybrid variant is powered by a power plant based on the same 3.5 V6 unit. In addition to it, there are three electric motors – one is aggregated with the 7 DCT preselective robot and helps to rotate the front wheels, the other two independently transmit traction to each of the rear wheels. The total power of the hybrid system is 382 hp, torque – 462 Nm. The drivetrain of the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid is claimed to be complete, although it is not a classic SH-AWD with the usual layout.
