Diagnostics and repair of electrical equipment

The electrical equipment of a modern car includes a whole range of electrical components, from simple fuses to on-board computers, and is the brain center of the car, which coordinates the operation of the car’s components and mechanisms.

Only a highly qualified master using advanced modern equipment for diagnosing the electrical equipment of a car can identify malfunctions of complex electronic components of a car. In order not to have trouble while driving, timely diagnostics of the car’s electrical equipment is necessary.

With computer diagnostics, the measured indicators are compared with the factory parameters. The results obtained are printed. All vehicle systems that are designed for computer diagnostics can be tested at an auto repair shop.

Signs of an electrical system malfunction

An electrical system is a complex mechanism of different parts, the operation of which depends on each other. Therefore, it can be very difficult to diagnose breakdowns without a specialist, and signs that seem to indicate a breakdown in the EO can be signs of some other malfunction.

The main malfunctions of the electrical system include:

-The battery charge indicator lights up while the engine is running;

• Insufficient brightness of the headlights when the engine is running;
• Unstable operation of the battery;
• Hoarse sound signal when the engine is running;
• Dependence of the brightness of the headlights on the speed;
• Extraneous sounds coming from the generator.

The most common causes of malfunctions in the electrical system are wear or corrosion of the system elements. Alternators in modern cars are most often maintenance-free, therefore, they require attention only to the control of the drive belt, which cracks and wears out in the first place. Low-quality components, high load on the system, climatic conditions and factors affecting the car from the outside can reduce the life of the system elements.

The main malfunctions in which diagnostics of the vehicle’s electrical systems are necessary:

-problems with starting the car engine; starter malfunctions;

• malfunction of any nodes in which there are fuses or relays;
• incomprehensible behavior of lighting devices; battery discharge;

-problems with the inclusion of devices powered by electric motors;

• Faulty ABS and others.
