Model history

The B18 engine, which drives the front wheels of the Integra, has a volume of 1.8 liters and develops 190 hp. at 8,000 rpm. This is one of the few cars that can boast of such indicators. The Integra motor really needs high RPM to achieve its full power. A change in the characteristics of the VTEC system occurs when reaching 5500 rpm, which is accompanied by a loud roar.
On the other hand, in the lower speed range, the B12 engine has a typical civilian character: quiet, economical, with a smooth increase in thrust. Simply put, it is quite suitable for daily trips, consuming up to 10 liters in the urban cycle, and up to 8 liters on the highway.
The suspension also has a dual character. During relaxed driving, it is comfortable and not too harsh. However, all the incredible potential of the chassis is revealed with vigorous movement. Integra very clearly enters into turns and tenaciously stands on the arc. For the European hot hatches of those years, such obedience and stability were unattainable.
The only flaw (according to experts) is insufficiently accurate steering in the near-zero zone. But, despite this, Integra Type-R has repeatedly received the prestigious title of “best driver’s front-wheel drive car” (according to the English magazine EVO).
Rust and malfunctions
The body is not well enough protected from corrosion, and numerous damages only accelerate the process of metal oxidation. Rust develops mainly on the wings, but often attacks the tank and fuel lines.
The rest of the faults are easy to fix. Quite intensive operation in sports mode leads to an increase in oil consumption (much less than 1 l / 1000 km) and the appearance of a rattle from the gearbox (wear of synchronizers and bearings). And yet, in general, the car demonstrates exemplary endurance. And the wear of the upholstery is a purely cosmetic defect.
Noteworthy is the outstanding durability of the suspension and clutch, which endure the sporting ambitions of the owner without much protest. Potential buyers can be calm: finding and buying spare parts will not be a problem.
